Bryant Gumbel


Bryant Charles Gumbel is an American television journalist and sportscaster, best known for hisyears as cohost of NBCs Today. He is the younger brother of sportscaster Greg Gumbel. Since 1995, he has hosted HBOs acclaimed investigative series Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, which has been rated as flat out TVs best sports program by the Los Angeles Times. It won a Peabody Award in 2012.

Gumbel was born in New Orleans. He is the son of Rhea Alice , a city clerk, and Richard Dunbar Gumbel, a judge. He attended and graduated from De La Salle Institute in Chicago, while growing up on the South Side of the city. He graduated from Bates College in 1970 with a degree in Russian history. In 1971, he became editor of Black Sports Magazine, leaving the following year. He began his television career in October 1972, when he was made a sportscaster for KNBCTV out of Los Angeles.
